What happens outside the northern suburbs decides how safe the suburbs are. Around 92 per cent of Kingborough’s land lies outside the Taroona to Huntingfield core, and about 1 in 3 of us live across it. Back the rural community to manage fuel on their own land, hold Council land to the same standard, and everyone is safer. Bushfire readiness is the first commitment in my 100 Day Plan.

Bruny carried 220,525 interstate and overseas visitors in the year to March 2026, about one in six of everyone who comes to Tasmania from elsewhere, and close to 380,000 visitor trips a year once Tasmanians are counted. The island has 1,008 residents and pays about $1.8 million a year in rates. The Bruny priority now sets out the numbers, the funding gap and every option that has been assessed, with sources.

You may have heard it in the media or on social media. I voted against this year’s Kingborough Council budget, the only councillor to do so. I could not accept slugging the community with a 6 per cent residential rate increase while delivering an eye-watering, record $2.6 million underlying deficit. By my count it is the 19th deficit this Council has handed the Kingborough community in 22 years.
This has to stop. Financial sobriety must return to Kingborough. Vote for me as Mayor to make sure it does. Hear my speech and listen to my reasoning.

Kingborough is growing faster than Tasmania and ageing faster too: 41,574 people today, 47,300 by 2038, and the number aged 85 and over more than doubling. Council’s independent review of the planning application process, 112 pages and 45 recommendations, confirms what applicants have been saying: demand is down, effort per application has roughly doubled, and repeated requests for information are the biggest frustration. Thirty-four pages, fourteen priorities, every commitment with a mechanism. The Bruny Island priority now carries cited September 2026 figures for visitors, residents, ferry traffic and fares, with every funding option that has been assessed set out with sources. Bushfire risk and the cost of insurance were added in August.
Making offenders clean up graffiti rather than the property owners who are its victims, backing owners with a Council removal service, and targeting hooning through better CCTV coverage and stronger partnerships with Tasmania Police, Crime Stoppers, and Neighbourhood Watch.
Building on the Tasmania Devils AFL High Performance Centre and JackJumpers presence to attract medical, orthopaedic, and allied health businesses, and developing a Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Plan for the whole municipality.

Election 2026
The Kingborough Council election takes place in October 2026. Voting in Tasmanian local government elections is compulsory for all enrolled residents. The election is conducted entirely by postal vote. Ballot packs are posted from Monday 5 October and the poll closes at 2.00pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026, a voting window of just over three weeks.
The Tasmanian Electoral Commission posts a ballot pack to every enrolled elector between Monday 5 October and Friday 9 October 2026. Watch your letterbox.
Complete your ballot and get it back so it arrives by 2.00pm on Tuesday 27 October 2026. No polling booth. Counting starts the next morning.
